DEITY IN THE SCRIPTURES
In Latter-day Saint theology, three distinct individuals comprise the Godhead – God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.(1) Few scripture verses contain the words of God the Father. He spoke with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, but after the Fall of Adam His words in scripture are essentially introductions of his beloved Son, Jesus Christ.(2) Jehovah (Jesus Christ) is the God of the Old Testament who spoke with and inspired prophets from the time of Adam until His birth in Bethlehem.(3) The words spoken by Jesus Christ during His mortal life are easily distinguished in the New Testament. In the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price His words are also easily identifiable. Thus, with very few exceptions, the words spoken or revealed by God throughout all scripture are the words of Jesus Christ.
